Transitioning Account

Transition from Faculty/Staff Account to Student Account

Typically when an employee leaves APU, their current account will permanently lock. If you were a student before, your account should've transitioned into your current account which still needs to be locked. If you became a student during your employment then it's always been the same account and still has to be locked.
Typically, our Engineering team will reach out to the personal email you have listed with the school with new details and a password reset email on the final day of employment.

  • What you will have access to:

Home Portal (home.apu.edu) should look like your student portal

Google Drive (drive.google.com) items will get transferred over if needed. If you'd want it in a certain way, please prepare it ahead of time.

Canvas (canvas.apu.edu) will remain the same, but will be unavailable for up to an hour after it syncs on an independent schedule.

Gmail (mail.apu.edu) will be created as a new email account, but unfortunately, will not transfer over the old emails. An employee who is a student/alumni but is leaving and wants to retain their student/alumni will not retain their Google account. They will be granted a new google account (either reusing their old email address or making a new one if they never had a student one)

We also encourage you to reach out once more on the day of to remind us that an account is needed!

 

Transition from Student Account to Faculty/Staff Account

When APU students/alumni become employees, their student account will be permanently locked and will transition to a faculty/staff account (as shown above).

Typically, our Engineering team will reach out to the personal email you have listed with the school with new details and a password reset email on the first day of employment (or can be a few days/weeks before employment to be able to get set up).

  • What you will have access to:

Home Portal (home.apu.edu) should look different than the student portal and have access to the portal as an employee.

Google Drive (drive.google.com) items will get transferred over if needed. If you'd want it in a certain way, please prepare it ahead of time.

Canvas (canvas.apu.edu) will be different, depending on your position and are teaching courses. If you aren't then you wouldn't have access to Canvas.

Gmail (mail.apu.edu) will be created as a new email account, but unfortunately, will not transfer over the old emails. A student who is an employee but wants to retain their student/alumni emails will not retain their Google account. They will be granted a new google account (either reusing their old email address or making a new one if they never had one)
