How to use Keyboard Commands in Gmail

Note: For these shortcuts to work, you must enable keyboard shortcuts in the settings. To do this, hit the gear in the top right of gmail. Then click Settings.Gmail_Settings.png

 

Next, make sure you are in the general tab at the top, then scroll down until you see Keyboard shortcuts. Click the button that says Keyboard shortcuts on.

Once this is done, you can now use the shortcuts below:

  1. Switching tabs: Ctrl + The number of the position of the tab (2nd tab = Ctrl + 2)

  2. Compose: C (in Gmail)

  3. Send your email: Tab+Enter

  4. Scroll up your inbox: J

  5. Scroll down your inbox: K

  6. Opens the email you highlighted: O

  7. Reply to message: R

  8. Go to Inbox: G + I

  9. Brings up master list of keyboard commands: Shift + /
